After we had been walking for about an hour, I received a phone call from Ian S. claiming that he had spent hours waiting at this Café for us to meet him, while everyone else was waiting for him at the agreed place (7 to 1). We had of course to check the veracity of this appalling excuse, so after the walk we visited. The landlady did indeed confirm that a 'stout' estrangeiro, had in fact been there earlier, and had preferred to sit tight nursing several 'canecas' and ignore her advice that we were probably waiting at the cafe in the next street!!
